Artifact from the Aberdeen Museum of History goes on display Tuesday
More than eight years after the fire, the first artifact from the Aberdeen Museum of History will be placed on public display this Tuesday at noon in Aberdeen City Hall.
More than six feet tall and five feet wide, the “Mighty Results from a Little Seed” mosaic is an impressive piece. The three-dimensional mosaic was made by gluing multiple layers of union buttons onto plywood backing. The base layer of buttons contains more than 8,000 buttons from AFL – CIO Region 9 locals, operating in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Alaska, California and Hawaii. There are more than 130 locals represented in the mosaic, with trades as diverse as Electricians, Longshoremen, and Heavy Equipment Operators; to Waitresses, Municipal Employees, and Window Washers.
The renovation and display of this artifact is an AMERICA250 project of History98520. This would not have been possible without the collaboration and assistance from the Grays Harbor Central Labor Council and the City of Aberdeen. The mosaic will be on display in the first-floor lobby of City Hall through August.
